My mom was a teacher in the 90's, and while I looked back on old photos, I was totally inspired to write this article. I also binged a bunch of 90's movies to get more outfit inspo for the last clothing line launch. 

I'm pretty happy about the outcome. It's a combo of a modern twist on a 90's inspired look, which is what's in style today.

To dress for a 90's day at school, you'll want go for high waisted pants or a long skirt with a statement blouse and cardigan. Finish your look with accessories like a hair scrunchie and 90's block sandals.

Looking back at movies or photos from the 90's you'll find a common aesthetic across the board. Here is what is concluded: 

• High-waisted pants: The 90s teacher outfit was all about high-waisted trousers. They were tailored and gave a polished look to the overall outfit. These trousers were often paired with a tucked-in blouse or a fitted sweater.

If you have been wearing the same outfits over and over you might start to feel like your look is getting a little stale.

I know that sometimes it seems like I am subconsciously reaching for the same pair of jeans everyday when I have 25 other pairs. 

If you are finding yourself feeling stuck reaching for the same outfit over and over, you may have just gotten too comfortable wearing the same thing. If you wear certain items over and over, they may start to become worn looking, overwashed and faded which will dull your entire outfit. 

The Fix:

It's time to break out of your wardrobe shell and explore some new styles. When this happens, I like to take some time to re-try on everything in my closet. Or at least several pieces that I haven't worn in a while and plan out my weekly wardrobe in advance.

Suddenly you'll feel more confident in that items again and maybe even excited to wear those pieces after seeing yourself in them again. I also like to order a new necklace, or accessory to spice up the old outfits. 

You haven’t cleaned out your closet in a while 

If you haven't cleaned out your closet in a while, it's probably time to do it again. If your closet starts to get too cluttered and you can't find anything it's probably time to take some inventory of what you have, want, don't want, and what you need. 

I clean out my closet twice a year. Once for spring/summer and a second time for fall/winter. I highly recommend doing this to stay on top of things. Especially if you are like me and you love to shop. 

I like to use storage bins for my out of season clothing to keep them nice and ready to go for the future season.

You can organize your clothing by season such as: SPRING/SUMMER & FALL/WINTER

How to clean out your closet each season 

• Label your bin for spring/summer or fall/winter
• Decide on if you want to keep, donate or give away an item before placing each one into your bin
• Do the same thing when unpacking your bin for the new season. You may no longer want certain pieces

Putting away out of season clothes can actually help you to "forget" about what you own and makes it seem like a bunch of brand new stuff when you unpack it all the following season.

It also helps to make more space in your closet allowing you to see what's weather appropriate and it can make getting dressed easier and leave you with more space for bringing in new pieces to love. It can also help you identify what you are missing in your wardrobe.

Owning too many basics

Owning great quality basics is actually the first step and a great foundation for styling several outfit combinations. However, if you only own basics and don't have any statement or fun pieces to throw in the mix, you may start to feel like you have nothing to wear.

Do you have several pieces in only one particular color/print? 

Are you attracted to a particular color or print? If you take a look in your closet and you see the same exact colors repeating many times over, you might be naturally attracted to the particular style. 

For example, I had a friend who would only wear black and she would feel uncomfortable to try different colors or patterns. If your closet doesn’t have any variety and lacks flavor in style, your soon to feel like you have nothing to wear. 

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, but if you notice that you are naturally attracted to a certain color or style, decide to go for and try different and new prints as well.

There are so many fun patterns, prints, colors and styles still left to try. I love stripes, animal print, solids, florals, color block and several other patterns available to choose from. Don't be shy, try them all and discover what you love. 

The Fix: Incorporate a variety of styles, prints and textures into your wardrobe rotation. Don't be afraid to mix it up. 

You wear the same outfit over and over 

If you find yourself reaching for the same exact outfit every single day, you may start to feel like you have nothing to wear. And I get it, sometimes we get comfortable wearing something and literally never want to take it off. This is your sign to mix it up. If none of your other clothes excite you anymore, it's time for a shopping spree!

You haven’t gone shopping in a while

If you haven't gone shopping and refreshed your wardrobe in a while, you will likely start to feel like you have nothing to wear. I notice that after I have worn everything in my closet, after a while I start to get bored of the clothes.

The fix: Sometimes adding a new accessory, or jacket is all you need to refresh an older look. 

 The clothes don't fit you anymore

Over time, our bodies naturally change. And that's totally okay! But if you are still trying to wear the same outfit you wore in high-school, you will likely be feeling like you have nothing to wear. Sometimes it can be hard to be honest with ourselves and let certain looks or outfits that we have just outgrow or no longer serve us go. 

The Fix: Let it go and replace the clothing that is no longer serving you 

The season has changed

Living in California my entire life meant that true seasons weren’t something I ever experienced. It never really dropped below 60 in the wintertime, except for at night, sure, but an almost year around sunny 60-90 degree rotation just meant throwing on a cardigan in wintertime and putting it away in late winter.  We would be swimming in the backyard pool by April. IYKYK.

After moving to the Pacific North-West to be closer to family, I discovered "seasons" for the first time and had to quickly adapt. Fashion is something that comes naturally to me, so I didnt struggle much, but it helped me to finally understanding the true meaning of the season- in a fashionable sense. Lol 😉 I mean, I finally understood why people wear those huge gigantic puffer coats. It never seemed necessary to me before. 

If your wardrobe isn't seasonally rounded, you'll be digging through your closet that's full of summer in the middle of winter and feel like you have nothing to wear.

The Fix: Shop for seasonally appropriate clothing

You had a baby or are pregnant?

Did you recently become pregnant or have a baby? This can definitely leave you with a feeling of "I have nothing to wear". When I was pregnant, my body started changing a lot, even before I had a noticeable bump. This made my clothes start to fit kind of funny, or not be as comfortable.

After I had my baby a lot of my clothes didn't fit for a while either. It's been a year since I've had my baby and although I am back to my postpartum weight, still some of my old clothes just don't fit quite right anymore. I am nursing my baby so a lot of my old tops just don't fit me the same right now. I am still going to keep these clothes for when I am done nursing, but for now I have put them all away. 

The Fix: This is common for a lot of new moms. It's totally normal to have a new body after baby. Adjusting your clothes to your new body will help boost your confidence and give you fresh new clothes to wear!

Moved to a new city or state?

Moving to a new city or state can be a big change. But nobody talks about how a lot of times, we have to also change our entire wardrobe to fit the new location. Especially if the environment and weather is completely different. 

The Fix: Asses your environment and figure out what pieces you are missing and let go of some pieces you will no longer be needing. 

Got a new job or going to a new school?

If you just landed a new job, congrats! Thats awesome! Sometimes when starting a new school or a new job, you don't fully know the dress code. It's easy to overthink what to wear in these situations and start feeling like you have nothing to wear. 

The Fix: Take a deep breath and know that it will all be okay! If your dressing for a new job, dress professionally and well on the first day. If you think it might be too casual, don't wear it. You can also call HR and ask about the dress code if possible.  

If you are going to a new school, just remember to be yourself and dress in a way that is naturally your style. Sometimes shopping for a new outfit can make you feel more confident too. 

Bored of your current clothes?

Are you getting bored of everything you own? I sure do get bored of wearing the same outfit and seeing myself in the same clothes all of the time. This is just human nature. This is also why it's important to have a good selection and rotation of clothing to choose from. 

The Fix: I like to put away clothes that are out of season. Out of sight out of mind.

This helps me to forget about the clothes and when the new season rolls around, I feel like the clothes are exciting or new again. I also like to incorporate a few new pieces with old pieces to make old outfits feel fresh.  

My Clothes Have Holes

If your clothes have gotten a hole, you are likely not going to wear them leaving you feeling like you have nothing to wear. But dont worry, there are a couple of easy fixes you can try right away. 

The Fix: If you have a hole in your clothing, you can definitely try to mend it by sewing it back shut. You can also try using fabric glue for smaller holes. This will help give your clothing a second life and keep them going longer. 

If they are not mendable, you can also donate or recycle the clothing and replace them with new ones. 

I am Feeling Uninspired 

Sometimes getting in a fashion rut can leave you feeling like you just have nothing to wear. It's totally normal and this happens to even the most fashionably appointed people from time to time.

There are so many reasons why we might start to feel uninspired from time to time. It might be the weather, your energy levels or a lack of motivation. Sometimes we can feel unmotivated when things get a little boring and mundane. 

Sometimes the best way to get out of the uninspired fashion rut is to actually just try something new.

Go out to a new restaurant, visit a new city, do something you love to do that you haven't in awhile. Doing something fun can help you feel motivated and inspired to get all dolled up again. 

Don't Know How to Put Outfits Together?

Putting good outfits together can be a bit challenging. To some people, putting together outfits just seems to come naturally but If you feel like you struggle putting good outfits together then you'll likely feel like you have nothing to wear. A great way to start is by pulling some inspiration. 

How to put together an outfit:

1. Check the weather 
2. Decide on a focal piece such as a dress or top
3. Next choose a matching jacket or cardigan if the weather calls
4. Pick your accessories, like scarves, jewelry, hats, etc
5. Finish with shoes and a bag

I have nothing to wear to a wedding? 

A dress or suit is a great option to wear to a wedding as a guest. If you don't have anything nice to wear to a wedding you might want to consider buying a cute wedding guest dress from HERE or renting one. 

If you have a friend or family member who shares the same size as you, you could try borrowing something. Of course, borrowing may come with stringers attached, so depending on the situation it may be just better or easier to purchase something totally new and all for you.

What to wear when I have nothing to wear?

Start simple to avoid overwhelm. First thing is first. Check the weather to help you choose accordingly. Then you should decide on a focal piece, such as a dress, top or pair of jeans. You can style the rest of your outfit around the focal piece. You can then move on to the next step, which is to match your top with a pair of jeans, then jacket. Add some accessories like jewelry, a scarf or hat. Complete your look with your purse and lastly shoes.

3. Next choose the second part of your outfit such as jeans or jackets, etc.
4. Pick your accessories, like scarves, jewelry, hats, etc

It's kind of funny because I have been a dress person for as long as I can remember. I would find most jeans to be too stiff, uncomfortable & a lot of times they wouldn’t fit in all the right places. Oversized cardigans look really cute and cozy with a casual dress, bottles and a crossover bag. You can also style an oversized cardigan with skinny jeans a fitted top and boots look so cute paired together.

How to wear cardigan without looking frumpy?

The trick here is honestly all about balance. Too many oversized articles of clothing can quickly begin to look frumpy, too much material in one place or another can overwhelm your look and appear frumpy as well.

So the best way to avoid this dilemma is to simply balance out your look. Wear your oversized knit cardigan or chunky knit sweater with fitted bottoms and boots to help balance out your look. If you’re styling a cardigan, try wearing a fitted top with it to keep the outfit even and polished.  

Try a monochromatic combo for a refined look.

My favorite way to wear a cardigan is actually with a dress. I just love how a cozy knit cardigan can take a summery style dress into fall so effortlessly. Another great way to wear a knit cardigan sweater is with a fitted blouse, fitted jeans and a nice pair of booties.

Can you wear a chunky knit sweater with jeans?

Wearing a chunky knit sweater with jeans or any oversized sweater for that matter is actually a really great choice for everyday casual style. Its an effortless cute and casual look that can take you throughout your day comfortably.

Not all blue jeans match with everything. There is a misconception that a good pair of blue jeans will match everything you wear them with, and although you can definitely get away with a lot, not all jeans are the same. 

Try adding olive jeans, black jeans, white jeans, gray jeans & various brown pants into your wardrobe mix for endless style potential.

Blue jeans come in various shades of blue, therefore some won’t match the tops you try to wear them with. There are so many different cuts of jeans to consider as well. Some might pair wonderfully due to the shade of blue, but the cut might not match well and vise versa. 

Try finding both a shade of blue & a jean style that both work well with your chunky knit sweater to complement your outfit.

Putting Outfits Together

The trick is to lay out all of your jeans and sweater on your bed and do a test run. Place your various sweaters next to your various jeans and try to find a color match. Once you have a color match, then try the outfits on and see which styles work best with your sweater.

You can do this with anything and everything in your closet. Once you have a cute outfit together, snap a photo of it to help you remember it in the future.

You can create an album in your phone to look back on whenever you are feeling in a rush, can't think of an outfit combination or just forget what you have. And I totally get it, we’ve all had those days where you just can't figure out what to wear. This little trick has helped me so much!

Whenever I bring something new into my closet, I create a variety of different looks for it using everything I currently have available in my closet. Sometimes I might create outfits and find that I could use a jacket, or scarf that would ultimately complete the look. So I go out and get it. 

But having outfits that are easy and ready to go saved in the back of your mind, or better yet, phone album is a great way to help you put outfits together quickly without having to think about them.

There’s so many wonderful things about fall, and one of my favorite things about fall is fall fashion, of course!

As temperatures start to cool in the mornings and evenings, we start to reach for those cozy layering pieces. That's where the Shacket comes into rotation. 

Today I am going to answer all of you’re Shacket questions.

I get so many emails with questions on a daily basis asking about this so I wanted to have a place for you to reference as needed. But don't be shy, if you have a question about anything, please feel free to reach out to me anytime.

What is a Shacket?

Well, to put it simply a shacket is a combination of a shirt and a jacket and born is the shacket. 

It's really the ultimate layering piece for fall and just about anytime you need an extra layer to keep you nice and cozy.

Are Shackets just a type of Jacket? 

Shackets come in all sorts of styles and fabrics. Some shackets are lightweight yet still heavier than a long sleeve shirt, while other shackets are a thicker medium weight, still being lighter than a full on jacket, making it the ultimate layering piece to have in your closet. 

Shackets are absolutely versatile and come in all kinds of prints, colors and textures as well.

What I love about a good shacket is how easily I can just throw it over so many different types of outfits and suddenly I have a cute and cozy fall or winter look. 

They are also generally designed to be oversized, which makes them, great for layering pieces together. This is great because sometimes fall can be really chilly in the morning and rather warm mid-day.

What to wear with plaid Shacket?

There are honestly so many cute ways to style a plaid shacket. I personally love a good plaid shacket with a solid top and some good jeans.

Depending on the shacket, I also love to pair it with a cute dress when I am going for a more casual vibe. I also like to style my outfit with jewelry like stacking rings to add a feminine touch to my look. 

Since shackets are generally loose fitting, I prefer to pair it with form fitting tops and jeans. It will help to balance out the overall look. 

If there’s too many loose fitting articles of clothing, the outfit can then start to appear frumpy and overwhelming baggy. Here are some outfit ideas with stackers that I am loving.

Are you a fan of plaid? Well then you are in luck! Plaid is one of those prints that doesn’t really ever necessarily go out of style.

It’s a classic print, meaning you can always count on it in your wardrobe as a staple, however plaid is also one of those prints that gains popularity usually in the cooler months. Like fall and winter. You will likely see variations of plaid prints come to life in fall and winter each year.

3 Unique Stylish Ways to style a Shacket

Once I discovered how versatile stackers are, I was ultimately hooked. There are so many unique and fun ways to style a Shacket. Just need to get a little creative and have fun putting cute outfits together.

Where to buy plaid Shacket?

You can find shackets at local shops and boutiques, the mall or you can check out my online boutique here and shop my popular shacket collection. Several of the shackets have sold out pretty quick on release day, but I bring in new styles regularly. 

Are Shackets cruelty free?

Yes, Shackets can be made cruelty free. You just have to know which materials to go for. Shackets are made with various materials in order to accomplish varying textures, weight and style. 

Cruelty free materials include: 

• Acrylic
• Polyester
• Nylon
• Cotton
• Spandex
• Rayon

When purchasing a shacket, make sure to check the materials. If you are concerned about cruelty free materials, avoid shackets containing animal fibers, which are not generally considered to be cruelty free.

Shackets that make a statement

When you style your plaid Shacket, you want to stick with solid colors for the blouse you wear underneath your printed Shacket. This keeps your outfit looking balanced and beautiful. You can go all out when it comes to adding texture, like chunky sweaters and scarves. Play around with various types of tops underneath your shacket with the clothes in your closet and see what variations you can come up with that look good.

I am seriously drooling over these gorgeous aztec and tribal print shackets. I have brought so many cute ones into the boutique this season and the feedback I am getting is amazing. 

There are so many cute shacket styles and outfits. You can wear Shackets in a dressy manner or keep it pretty casual and down to earth. Really, whatever look you are going for, you can accomplish it with the right shacket. 

What size Shacket should I get?

Since Shackets generally have an oversized design, it's actually recommended that you stay true to your usual go-to size to accomplish the look you are going for when styling a shacket.

It's good to check the size chart or item measurements when purchasing a shacket online to make sure that you are getting the correct fit. 

All of my shackets that are "oversized" still technically fit me rather well. They fit well around the shoulders and don't slouch because I am going with my true to size. Even though shackets are sometimes designed to be oversized.

The arm length on shackets can be a little long at times which actually helps to give the "oversized" look by being able to scrunch up the sleeves or roll them up. It's just part of the fun flair of styling a good shacket. 

How to wash Shacket?

The best way to wash a shacket is by hand. You will need to turn the shacket inside out and gently wash it with cold water. If you have a washing machine with a hand-wash setting, you can place your shacket in a mesh bag and place your shacket on the lowest gentle no spin cycle setting with cold water. You will then want to lay your shacket flat to dry, or hang dry for best results.

How to wash Shacket:

1. Turn Shacket inside out
2. Place Shacket in mesh bag
3. Turn washer setting to extra gentle or no spin or hand-wash setting (if you don't have a washing machine that offers these settings, you can wash the shacket by hand. 
4. Use cold water and your favorite detergent 
5. Once the wash is complete lay the shacket flat to dry 
6. To remove excess water, gently press the water out while the shacket is laying flat. Do not wring! 

If you are worried about your washing machine or if you do not have a gentle setting, I recommend truly hand washing the shacket. You can fill a bucket or sink with cool water and small amount of gentle liquid detergent.

Gently wash the shacket by hand. Rinse out the detergent with fresh water and lay flat or hang to dry. To squeeze the excess water out, gently press on the jacket, but do not wring as it can cause damage to the fibers. 

But please, please remember this! Do not place the shacket in the dryer or ring the water out. You won't be too thrilled with the results if you do this. 

Having a good washing machine is so important in helping to take care of our clothes. I recently purchased a new washer and dryer and I love the machine! I actually trust it to wash my clothes gently. I am currently using the Maytag Commercial technology washing machine and its a dream! I love it so much. My clothes always come out so fresh and clean and the gentle setting is actually gentle, which is great. I would have never trusted my old washing machines gentle setting. 

How to style a Shacket for work?

If you are wondering whether you can wear a Shacket to work or the office the answer is yes! Although several shackets generally have a laid back style to them, there are shackets that exist that have a fantastically professional appearance. Shackets are really so versatile and cute! Here are a couple of my favorite ways to style a shacket professionally for work. 

4 Ways to style Shackets for work:

 I love this look for the office. This Tweed shacket is absolutely stunning and can easily replace the everyday blazer for a chic look. I love it paired with A white blouse, blue jeans and kitten heels. 

This tweed Shacket also looks fab with white jeans for the office. 

I love a good solid nude colord shacket. You can wear with just about any color and look put together easily. 

Solid Shackets are great for those morning on the go when you dont have alot of time and you just need something quick to grab to complete your outfit. 

 I love a good plaid Shacket. These shackets are crazy popular right now. I love this black and white plaid shacket paired with a solid white top, black denim and booties.It makes for a stylish and professional look for the office.

Can you wear a Shacket with a dress?

The short answer is yes! You can definitely wear a shacket with a dress. I love a good cropped Shacket to pair with a dress. It's actually a really cute look. I have even worn long Shackets with dresses. 

Wearing a shacket with a dress is a great way to dress down your look. Wearing a shacket with a dress is basically like replacing your jean jacket that you would normally wear with that dress. 

Can you wear shacket with joggers? 

A good shacket can be as versatile as you allow it to be. You can definitely wear a shacket with joggers! I love this jogger look for around the holidays. It makes me feel all cozy, warm and comfy. Now all I need is a nice cup of tea and my favorite blog to read! 

This is a look that's great to wear when its brisk out and your going to your yoga or pilates class and you are looking to stay cozy. Wearing joggers with a shacket can make a statement, but in a good way. 

Ways to wear a shacket

There are so many cute ways to wear a Shacket. Honestly, you really can get creative here and have fun with it. I know it can be challenging sometimes to put together outfits with new pieces and old pieces that you didn't necessarily buy to go together. This is why I style everything in the boutique with pieces from the boutique. A lot of the girls who shop with me (in the boutique) usually will just buy the whole outfit because it makes it so much easier to have an outfit that's ready to put on and to go.

Yes, shackets are meant to be oversized, making them perfect for layering during the cooler months and ultimately a must have for the fall and winter months. Shackets are loose fitting which in turn, they generally give off a cute and casual aesthetic.

I remember when I was in high school, my parents would give me a bit of $$$ to go out and buy a Halloween costume. I remember wanting to use that $$$ on real clothes I already wanted, but also wanting to dress up for Halloween. During my sophomore year I decided I would start DIYing my own Halloween costumes with REAL clothes from my closet. I would then just buy a few supporting accessories or clothing pieces to complete my Halloween look & get pieces of that OOTD id been eyeing. It's the best of both worlds if you ask me! 

This way, you could buy a new dress or a new skirt that you could wear again and again. By the way my parents totally loved this idea! Halloween is really the start of the party season and what better way than to start it off with a few fun outfit pieces that can go beyond just Halloween night!
